Off Campus Review: Heartbreak and Unexpected Depth
4 Minute Read Let's dive into it. This show has hit me like that time I climbed out of a tree, age 8, unpredictably. The first episode and the first scene broadcast a strong, quite immature male-led tone. Therefore, I believed this show would just become more cliché as time went by, though it had depth and character; I ultimately grew to love it. Let me explain I'll admit, the whole help me get him, is an absolute overused plot point. Hannah, the female lead, likes a singer at the bar where she works. She is an expert at assignments; therefore, as established earlier, Gareth, a hockey player, sees she aced it and can't talk to her crush. They make it a deal. The BOY FOR THE GRADE. However, what I didn't expect was that Hannah (I hadn't read the books) and Gareth reveals his laughter as he sees Hannah singing and letting off steam, understandably. After the second ad break, we saw what the writers were leading us towards, and I was so down to go on this rollercoaster. And man, was it one. Let's dive into it It is set at university; Hannah, Gareth, and their roommates are studying there. There an whole amount cackle of fish. Episode 1 The actor’s portrayal caught me off guard. I bet they were great their chemistry exam. I didn't even notice the actors' 10-year age gap, as the script was great, like a movie script. The actor who plays Gareth came across as a hard-ass at first, but I loved learning more about him. Which really opened things up for the show's veracity. Episode 2 We saw how Gareth totally transforms when he is with Hannah. I loved the comedy, and although the love that was forming between a pair who, in real time, are definitely “just friends”. I liked episode 2 because Hannah learnt alot about his character and she trusted him, which we later find out is hard for her. Overall, this just further established their growing bond. Episode 3 Hannah and Justin (her crush) are getting to know one another when Hannah starts to feel inadequate. What will she be like in bed? This is because Hannah's past is subconsciously revealed when she explains she wants to see if she could have an orgasm. One thing leads to another, and it is one of the best scenes I have seen, as Gareth helps Hannah not just get off but also feel safe and trust herself when she gives her body. She had suffered with that in the past, which, in later episodes, is a key point as well. Phil, Gareth's dad, and they both are from this point thinking of one another, as they would just say have connected, as getting naked can do. Who would have thought. Episode 4 It ended with a romantic kiss scene in the university hockey stadium. After Hannah ditches lead guitarist Justin, her now old crush, and runs towards where her new potential future is: Gareth. Handsome Gareth who doesn't do girlfriends. Who will learn doesn't mean won't; it means he is just unsure. This episode was great because I loved the honest dialogue and the start of a turning point; the chase was over, if this was even a chase. And the love was allowed to bloom where he said, “Wait, no, not anymore, deals, please” Overall, this show has become one of my favourites. Those are my favourite episodes. I'm just happy I do not need to rewatch Grey's or Scandal. Off Campus is the new show on the block and I am so excited for more seasons. Amazon, well done! You have made me very happy, except in episode 7, which made me die inside. I Give This Sho mw 9.5/10 You won't get a better couple!
